Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal on Saturday alleged that her predecessor, Barkha Shukla, recruited wives of IAS and IPS officials for posts that were never advertised. Ms Maliwal levelled the allegation in her response to the ACB, which conducted a search at her office last week after Ms Shukla complaint. “Barkha Shukla Singh made 49 contractual appointments and appointed wives of IAS and IPS officers without giving advertisements and over 2,500 cases were pending when I assumed charge,” the DCW chief said. “The present commission has handled 12,000 complaints compared to 3,500 by the previous commission. We have also given over 50 recommendations to government in one year as compared to the recommendations given by previous commission in entire tenure of 8 years,” she added. Last week, the ACB had carried out searches at the DCW office in connection with complaints by a former chief secretary and Ms Shukla.
