Bike-borne snatchers once again struck in high-security area of the capital in broad daylight and this time they targeted two foreigners in two consecutive days. The first incident was reported on February 5 from near the Italian embassy in Chanakyapuri.
The complainant, identified as Ms Marie Christine, an employee of French embassy, told the police that two persons on a motorcycle snatched her bag near the Italian embassy at 2.30 pm.
“We received the call about the incident at around 2.30 pm following which a police team was sent and an officer was assigned the probe. The victim said her bag containing `10,000 cash, two mobile phones, access cards of French embassy, I-card and other valuables was snatched. The victim said that the two bike-borne snatchers were involved in the incident. An FIR under Section 379/356 has been lodged,” said a police official.
The police immediately launched massive checking of all vehicles to nab the culprits but the efforts proved futile.
The very next day, on February 4, bike-borne snatchers targeted another foreigner. The victim, identified as Yoshimoto, a Japanese tourist, had hired an autorickshaw from Saket and she was on her way to the hotel in Paharganj where she is staying.
As the victim reached Tughlaq Road at 6.50 pm two miscreants on a motorcycle snatched her bag. The victim resisted but the snatchers managed to snatch her bag and flee. The victim received minor injuries in her hands during the scuffle.
“The victim said that her bag containing `50,000 cash, her passport, mobile phone and other important and valuables was snatched. The CCTV footages of the nearby areas are being examined. We will nab the culprits soon,” said a police official.
