Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal on Wednesday blamed the lack of coordination between the Central and Delhi government as one of the prime causes for rise in crimes against women and demanded setting up of a forum comprising to look into such cases for their expeditious disposal.

“The Centre and NCT of Delhi lack proper coordination on many fronts, including issue of women safety, which has been leading to spurt in crimes and even atrocities against women for which the suggested solution could be setting up of the forum.

“The forum should comprise Union home minister Rajnath Singh, minister of state for home affairs Kiran Rijiju, Delhi lieutenant-governor (Najeeb Jung), Delhi chief minister (Arvind Kejriwal) and DCW chairperson to look into such cases for their expeditious disposal,” Ms Maliwal said.

Ms Maliwal said the DCW has already mooted a suggestion to this effect to the Union Home Ministry, the Chief Minister of NCT of Delhi and the L-G in her recent meetings with them.

She was addressing a conference on “Challenges and Issues Regarding Safety and Security of Women in Delhi” under aegis of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry here.

This forum, Ms Maliwal said, should meet at least twice a month to review the progress on women safety and security in and around Delhi and instruct the authorities concerned to take faster action against those that indulged in such heinous crimes.
