Following the Union government’s decision to increase the retirement age of doctors, the BJP-ruled North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has also increased the retirement age of doctors working in its hospitals and health centres from 60 to 65 years. A proposal on increasing the retirement age of doctors was passed in a meeting of the NDMC standing committee on Wednesday. Former NDMC chairman Mohan Bhardwaj proposed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a decision to strengthen the healthcare sector in the country and the corporation should follow it. “By adopting the Union government’s decision, we can continue to take services of our doctors, who are good and can compete with others. The decision to increase the retirement age should be retro effective from May 31,” said Mr Bhardwaj.

Chairman of the standing committee, Pravesh Wahi, said that the health department should also look into possibilities of increasing retirement age of doctors under the Ayush department of the NDMC. “If the Union governments decision also includes doctors working in Ayush then we must increase their retirement age,” said Mr Wahi.
