A Munna Bhai M.B.B.S,-style fake doctor has landed in police net for allegedly duping innocent persons by posing as a medical doctor at a renowned central Delhi hospital.

Deputy commissioner of police, central district, Paramaditya said the accused, identified as 29-year-old Rohit Parcha, had moved to Delhi after being sacked from a hospital in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh where he worked as a ward boy.

On Friday, the chief security officer of a leading city hospital had informed the police about apprehension of a man who posed as a doctor to cheat patients on pretext of getting crucial tests like MRI done and fraudulently obtained money.

“One of the patients had come to know about the fraud when he went to the hospital lab to inquire about the test and was apprised that he had been cheated by a fraudster,” said the police, adding, “After that relevant CCTV footage was scrutinised and the fraudster was identified in the video following which he was caught.”

He wandered around prominent private hospitals in the city and after a few days he took it as an opportunity to earn quick bucks. With whatever knowledge of medicine he possessed, Mr Kumar started pretending to be a doctor and targeted mostly the poor and illiterate people, said the police.

During interrogation, the DCP said, that Rohit disclosed that he had worked as a ward boy in a hospital in Meerut and moved to Delhi after losing his job. He added that he was inspired by the Hindi film Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. and wanted to live a luxurious life. He started to cheat innocent patients and their attendants on the pretext of facilitating getting expensive tests in prestigious hospitals done at half the price of the fixed rates. “He was fascinated by the profession of doctors and had bought himself a stethoscope and a doctor’s gown, wearing which he would roam around in search of targets,” said the DCP, adding, “After offering them discounted rates, he would ask for an advance from the victims and run away.”

The DCP added that the police is probe whether he was involved in cheating other gullible persons using similar modus operandi.
