A 26-year-old labourer died while two others suffered severe injuries after they fell from the fourth floor of an under-construction building on the AIIMS campus on Wednesday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Diwakar. The injured persons, Lokesh (24) and Sushil (23), have been admitted to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, the police said. All are from Bihar’s Madhepura district.

According to the police, the incident took place at around 5 pm at the under-construction mother-and-child ward of the premier medical institute here.

The three labourers were working on the ceiling of the fourth floor when a beam slipped and fell on the plank on which they were standing, sending them crashing 60 feet down, the police said.

The trio was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where Diwakar was declared brought dead.

The incident took place close to where two labourers died and three others were severely injured in March in a cave-in at an under-construction site near the AIIMS mortuary.

Several persons have been questioned in connection with the incident on Wednesday and it has prima facie emerged that the builder, a prominent name, had adequate knowledge of the risk to which the workers were exposed to, the official said, adding that senior police officials have visited the site of the mishap and inquiries are on into the matter.

A case under IPC Sections 368, 288, 337 and 304 has been registered against construction company at Hauz Khas police station, said a senior police official.
