The Delhi police has chargesheeted JNU’s Ph.D. student Anmol Ratan for raping a 28-year-old fellow student. The chargesheet was filed before the court of metropolitan magistrate Loveleen on Saturday.

The court after taking cognisance of the chargesheet fixed the matter for October 8 for further hearing. On the next date of hearing, the court is likely to refer the case to the sessions court. Ratan is currently lodged in judicial custody and his bail application is pending before the court of additional sessions judge Rakesh Pandit.

The chargesheet read that the victim, also a Ph.D. student, had written on her social networking site’s wall that she wanted to watch the mo-vie Sariat. Ratan told her that he had a copy of the film. He then contacted the survivor several tim-es and on August 20 at ar-ound 10.30 pm he picked her from her hostel. The accused took her to his hostel room where he off-ered her whisky. The chargesheet further read that after having whisky the accused removed her clothes and forced himself on her. He then did not let her wear the dress for hours.

After raping her, Ratan called former president of Aisa Sucheta De. He told Sucheta over the phone to meet her and help her if she wanted to contest the JNU elections. The woman in the meantime ran away from his room. Rat-an followed her. She tried to call the hostel warden, but Ratan snatched her cellphone. It all happened in front of a hostel guard.

Ratan then told her that he would drop her and went form the scene saying he would be coming on a bike. Meanwhile, the girl spotted one of her friends who dropped her at her hostel in his car. Later, she approached the police and lodged a case against Ratan.

The police have also told the court that they would file a supplementary char-gesheet in this connection. It said that call deta-ils of the woman and the accused, fingerprint report and other CFSL reports pertaining to the case will be submitted in supplementary charge-sheet.
