Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar inaugurated the Begum Hazrat Mahal hostel for 400 girls on Wednesday.

Union HRD minister Prakash Javadekar inaugurated the Begum Hazrat Mahal hostel for 400 girls on Wednesday.

The Union HRD minister emphasised on the need to boost research in various disciplines in the country.

“Our speciality is that everyone accepts each other’s customs and culture, respect each other and carry on with our traditions, which is what real education is. The education of different subjects happens in classrooms but this is the education for life,” he said.

Rooting for women’s education, the BJP leader said it was a great loss to humanity that women were not allowed to study for hundreds of years. While referring to social reformers like Savitribai Phule and Maharshi Kar-ve, he said that when they tried to work for women’s education, they were pelted with stones but that did not deter them from pursuing the goods they had set for themselves.

“The Modi government has paid special emphasis on education of girls through its popular campaign of Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao,” Mr Javadekar said. On the other hand, JMI vice-chancellor Talat Ahmad said the university had started 18 Global Initi-ative of Academic Networ-ks (GIAN) courses in the last two years, including those on Sanskrit and Yoga, which is the highest in any Central university. “The varsity is focusing on world class interdisciplinary research while increasing the academia-industry collaboration in research,” he said.

The university is also working on ministry-level programmes.
