The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), responsible for compiling reports on vector-borne diseases for all the civic bodies in the city, has sought report from the health department on the CAG findings that the civic agencies had underreported the deaths which took place due to dengue in Delhi last year.

Report was sought in the standing committee of the SDMC where members, referring to the CAG report published in this newspaper, sought to know the actual number of patients who died due to dengue last year. Out of nearly 68,000 positive dengue cases reported by the city’s hospitals, the SDMC intimated only 22,436 cases.

Leader of the Opposition in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation Farhad Suri asked about the discrepancies between the number confirmed by the civic report and CAG.

“There are huge discrepancies between the number confirmed by the SDMC and that quoted in the CAG report. A detailed report should be presented whether CAG numbers are correct or not. If correct, then why had the corporation underreported the cases,” said Mr Suri.
