IM suspect held for sheltering Bhatkal: Cops
A man has been arrested by a special team of Delhi police from Barabanki, UP, for sheltering the alleged Indian Mujahideen leader Yasin Bhatkal last year when security agencies were on his trail.
The accused, Talha Abdali, alias Israr, was arrested after his name cropped up during the interrogation of six Indian Mujahideen suspects arrested in a special operation by the Delhi police and central intelligence agencies last year.
The operatives had revealed that Talha had given shelter to Yasin Bhatkal when agencies were on his trail. Police officials described Talha as an “important member” of Indian Mujahideen. He was brought to the city on Sunday.
Talha is being jointly interrogated by a team of Delhi police, Intelligence Bureau and National Investigation Agency officials.
“He is an important IM ideologue. His name surfaced in 2008. A code word ‘JNU’ was being used by the IM operatives after which we increased surveillance in the university. However, the JNU mentioned in the conversation was a reference to a unani medicine college in Uttar Pradesh,” a special cell official said.

New Delhi, Feb. 7
The Delhi University Teachers’ Association on Tuesday launched planned protests against the varsity administration for its “indifference” to their crucial demands and the “unilateral decisions” by the vice-chancellor.
Daylong “working dharnas” were held in Daulat Ram, Hans Raj, SGTB Khalsa, Kirorimal, Miranda House, Hindu and Ramjas Colleges, among others.
The teachers have embarked on a warpath over a series of issues revolving around policy decisions by the varsity as well as ministry of human resource development.
A major issue has been the “marks scam” under the semester system with teachers alleging a faulty mechanism of marks moderation that resulted in first-year semester students scoring unusually high marks. Duta will also hold a protest march on February 16 against six education-related bills to be tabled in the Budget Session of Parliament, to be followed by another protest on February 24.
