HC raises compensation for stampede victims

A division bench comprising Delhi high court Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Manmohan on Wednesday enhanced the compensation to the families of five girls killed in a stampede at a government school in Khajuri Khas, east Delhi, in September last year from `2 lakhs to `5 lakhs each.
The court also enhanced the compensation to the families of 35 injured children from `50,000 to `75,000. The court directed the NCT government to pay the amount within two months. “With regard to the gravity of situation and all other factors, we think a further sum of `5 lakhs should be paid to the parents by way of bank draft within a period of eight weeks,” the bench said.
