Three persons were electrocuted while celebrating a birthday party on terrace of a restaurant in southwest Delhi’s Sagarpur area on Saturday.

Three persons were electrocuted while celebrating a birthday party on terrace of a restaurant in southwest Delhi’s Sagarpur area on Saturday.

The birthday party was being celebrated in JD restaurant, situated in Varisht Park opposite the Janak Cinema in Janakpuri. All three victims are admitted to nearby hospitals — one is in a stable condition, but the other two are critical.

The police identified the three injured men as Nitish (23), Rinku (24) and Ankit (22).

There were six persons at Nitish’s birthday party. At 9.30 pm on Saturday, after cutting the birthday cake, the three victims opened their beer bottles and started shaking the bottles to spray the beer.

“Right then, the beer hit a high tension electric wire hanging loose at the terrace. After the beer fell on the wire, the three victims got electrocuted and got pulled towards the wire,” said the police. Other people at the got shocked and did not touch them as they feared that they would get electrocuted as well. They immediately called the police. The restaurant owner fled when he realised the seriousness of the incident. The police took Rinku and Ankit to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and Nitish, who celebrating his birthday, was admitted to Bhagat Hospital in Janakpuri. The police has registered a case against the restaurant owner, who is currently absconding. “We have registered a case against the restaurant owner. The party was held at the rooftop of his restaurant. He is absconding and we are on the lookout for him. Further investigations in the matter are on,” said the police.
