E-rickshaws to ply in Noida, greater Noida

In order to provide last minute connectivity to daily commuters, the Uttar Pradesh Transport Authority has approved the much-awaited e-rickshaw facility in the twin cities of Noida and Greater Noida, which is likely to start in the next few weeks. The authority plans to issue 350 e-rickshaw permits soon that will ply on the twin city’s internal roads. Besides the Gautam Budh Nagar district, the authority has also decided to launch e-rickshaw service in Ghaziabad, Hapur and Bulandshara.

The department is granting permits only to e-rickshaw models designed by a few manufacturing companies which have been approved by the state government. The government has asked Noida transport officials to submit details of the project, including the number of routes defined in Noida and the number of e-rickshaws with its colour code on each routes.

A senior officer said that the e-rickshaw services were expected to start in the second week of December. He said that the state transport authority has ordered regional authority to immediately start the facility. “Once we get the details of the project from the Noida transport department, the RTO office will issue permits to e-rickshaws.”

The officer said a detailed survey about a dozen routes have been identified in the twin cities of Noida and Greater Noida. He said that the administration has agreed to ply 250 e-rickshaws in Noida and 100 in Greater Noida with colour coding on their respective routes.
