‘Disturbed’ man kills dad, injures mother, himself
A 33-year-old “mentally disturbed” man allegedly bludgeoned his 58-year-old father to death and critically injured his mother before smashing his own head with a pestle at his Krishna Nagar residence in east Delhi on Tuesday.
Police officials said the accused, Chandra Mohan Dhingra, 33, started hammering his father Harnam Singh Dhingra with a pestle around 3 am over some issue and continued till 6 am. His mother Kailash Rani, 55, tried to save her husband and was hit on her head by Mohan with the pestle.
The incident came to light at around 8.45 am when a neighbour heard Rani screaming for help and made a PCR call. A police team arrived and broke open the door of the house. The victims were rushed to Dr Hedgewar Aarogya Sansthan Hospital.
DCP (east) Prabhakar said Mohan tried to smash his own head with the pestle and inflicted a serious wound. “On the basis of Rani’s statement a case of murder has been registered against Chandra Mohan. He will be arrested once he is discharged from hospital,” DCP Prabhakar said. The police has recovered the pestle used in the commission of the crime.
Rani told the investigators that she was sleeping in her bedroom when she heard her husband screaming. “She went to his bedroom and found her son attacking her husband. When she tried to stop him, she was attacked by her son and lost consciousness. She came to senses at around 8 am only to find her husband lying dead in a pool of blood,” a senior police official said.
Dr Ashok Dua, chief casualty medical officer, Dr Hedgewar Aarogya Sansthan, said, “All three had serious head injuries. Dhingra was dead when he was brought here. Rani’s condition is critical while Mohan is out of danger”. According to the relatives of the victims, Mohan is mentally unstable for the last 15 years and he used to torture and beat up his parents often.
“Around two-years ago, Mohan was sent behind the bars for five days after the police arrested him for thrashing his parents. He is mentally unsound and remains unmarried and unemployed because of his illness. His parents were taking care of all his needs and requirements. My brother-in-law used to deal in real estate but for the past four months he was at home taking complete rest after a heart surgery,” Rani’s brother Charanjeet Singh said.
