
Counterfeit cosmetics seized, 3 arrested
The crime branch of Delhi police has seized a big haul of counterfeit cosmetics of leading market brands and arrested three persons, including a woman, in the case.
The accused have been identified as Sonia Gulati, 55, Sandeep Talwar, 32, and Moti Lal, 50, all residents of Uttam Nagar in west Delhi.
With their arrest, the police has busted a racket of manufacturing, stocking, packaging and sale of counterfeit cosmetic products of leading brands like Revlon, Ponds, Lakme and Dove.
The police had received information on Thursday that a suspect was indulging in the sale and stocking of counterfeit cosmetic products from his shop in Ranibagh market of northwest Delhi.
A police team conducted a raid at the store where the accused Sandeep was found in possession of fake branded cosmetic products.
“On the basis on the information revealed by Sandeep Talwar, a raid was conducted at Uttam Nagar where Sonia Gulati and her accomplice Motilal were found involved in manufacturing, packaging and supplying counterfeit cosmetic products of leading brands. Huge quantity of packaging material, two dye machines and blocks of Lakme and Dove trademarks were recovered from their possession,” DCP (crime), Ashok Chand said.
According to estimates of the crime branch officials, the approximate value of the recovered counterfeit cosmetic products is more than `20 lakhs.
