Separate teams of Delhi police are conducting raids in different states across the country to arrest all the absconding accused in Baby Falak case, including taxi driver Rajkumar and a woman named Saroj, who had convinced Munni, Falak’s mother, to get married, and one Shankar, who was instrumental in bringing Munni from Muzafarpur to Delhi.
The police officials have learnt that Munni was not the only victim of the human trafficking racket operated by the three women — Laxmi, Saroj and Kanta — with the help of their male accomplices. “They had sold Munni to Harpal, her second husband, for a petty amount and had also arranged another girl for Harpal’s cousin. We are trying to track down that girl to shed more light on the case,” a source said. While Laxmi and Kanta have been arrested, the police is yet to arrest Saroj.
“Efforts are also being made to trace Munni’s son. Munni is getting proper counselling and she is looking forward to reunite with her missing son who will be traced soon. She will be able to meet Falak in a day or two,” DCP (south) Chhaya Sharma said. The police is pursuing the case as a human trafficking racket as it has come to light that Munni was lured to Delhi on the promise of arranging her marriage but was instead sold to Harpal.
Meanwhile, as her condition hasn’t deteriorated in the last 72 hours, doctors are mulling over taking off the ventilator support by Thursday. “There is no change. She remains stable. Her blood infection is under control but brain and chest infection persists,” Dr Deepak Aggarwal, assistant professor of neurosurgery at the AIIMS Trauma Centre, said.
Dr Aggarwal said the child’s culture reports for the infection will arrive by 12 noon on Thursday and on the basis of the results, the future course of action will be decided. “Depending on the reports, we will decide whether we can take off the ventilator support,” he said.
Meanwhile, the southeast district police have also arrested two men for allegedly forcing the 15-year-old girl, who admitted Baby Falak to AIIMS in January, into prostitution. Rana, the husband of Anita, who got the 14-year-old girl, and his friend Salahuddin, have been arrested for forcing the girl into prostitution.

The just-concluded summit meeting of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato) in Chicago leaves gaping questions about the viability and direction of the world’s largest military alliance.

If we rework Shankar’s cartoon with, say, Mahatma Gandhi riding a bullock cart of democracy in his dwija dress and Jawaharlal Nehru standing in his sanatan pundit’s dress, a thread across his body, an
