CNG kit scam: No installations till probe

After several cases of corruption were reported in the CNG installation issue, the process of CNG kit installation will come to a halt till a formal inquiry in the CNG kit scam is over. The city’s transport department has directed all the motor licensing officers in regional transport offices not to endorse any CNG kits as the companies installing these kits have indulged in unfair trade practices and have continued installing sub-standard gadgets for the past several months.

The transport department’s deputy commissioner (operations) has issued a circular to all the motor licensing officers stating that the allegations have been received from some corners that some CNG kit manufacturers have been supplying unapproved and uncertified CNG kits for retro-fitment in the in-use vehicles and thus cheating the vehicle owners by supplying these sub-standard kits. In fact, the vehicle owners have been coughing up huge amount even for these sub-standard kits.

The DC (operations) has directed all the MLOs not to endorse any CNG fuel kits till further orders. In his order, deputy commissioner (Operations) Yog-esh Pratap said: “Since allegation has been receiv-ed from some corners that some CNG kit manufacturers have been supplying unapproved/ uncertified CNG kits for retro-fitment in the ‘in-use’ ve-hicles and thus cheating the vehicle owners by supplying the unapproved sub-standard CNG kits and by charging prices of original CNG Kits for such unapproved / sub-standard kits.”

Thus the transport department has taken up the matter seriously and is keen to indentify the unscrupulous dealers ind-ulging in installation of sub-standard kits. In one such order, MLO (Operat-ions) Prawin Das said: “You were directed to look into the allegation leveled in the complaint made by M/s Dashmesh CNG Impex Pvt. Ltd and ensure that no such kit has been endorsed by the zonal authority and submit certificate to the effect and if any lapses are noticed then to take immediate necessary action into the matter under intimation to this office But till date no reply/ action taken report is received in this branch You are therefore once again directed to enquire the matter/ complaint and obtain the details of DCIPL CNG retrofitted by both the distributor (M/s Highrise Overseas Pvt Ltd and M/s Arrowtech Gas Systems) or other RFCs and take action against defaulter.”
