Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday slammed Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis’s role in mediating talks between Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and filmmakers in ensuring the release of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.

“BJP will ruin the country,” Mr Kejriwal tweeted in response to another post that described the solutions arrived at as “extortionist.”

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena had earlier threatened to disrupt the screening of the film as it features Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. Its chief Raj Thackeray has faced flak from various quarters, including the Army, over his demand that Bollywood producers who have worked with Pakistani actors should donate `5 crore to the Army welfare fund. Under pressure from political and other outfits, Bollywood filmmakers on Saturday had announced that they will not engage with Pakistani artists.

Mr Fadnavis has also been facing criticism from the Opposition parties for “bowing” to the highhanded tactics of the MNS and “failing” to ensure rule of law in Maharashtra. Under pressure from political and other outfits, Bollywood film producers had on Saturday announced that they will not engage with Pakistani artistes, clearing decks for the smooth release of the film.
