A day after chief minister Arvind Kejriwal accused the Delhi University of “refusing” to reveal Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s graduation degree, the AAP leader wrote to the university’s vice-chancellor Yogesh Tyagi on Thursday, demanding that the degree must be put on the varsity’s website as truth should emerge on a matter of “grave concern.” Mr Kejriwal had on Wednesday accused the university of refusing to reveal Mr Modi’s degree as he had “never graduated” from there.

City minister Kapil Mishra on Thursday alleged that Mr Modi’s educational degree and “marriage story” are “fake.”

“The one whose story of a tea shop is fake, marriage story is fake, electoral assurances are fake, educational degree fake... His bhakts (followers) are putting out fake posts to comfort themselves,” Mr Mishra tweeted.

Earlier, Mr Mishra had courted controversy and described Mr Modi as an “ISI agent” after Pakistan’s joint investigation committee, including an official of Pakistan’s spy agency, probing the Pathankot attack visited the site in Punjab.

The AAP fielded its MLA and former minister Jitender Singh Tomar, who was arrested over the alleged fake degree charge, against the Prime Minister.

Mr Tomar, who was sacked over his alleged fake degree, said Mr Modi should also be arrested in a similar way like he was. “I was charged with possessing a fake degree. There are similar charges against the Prime Minister now. A similar process should be adopted for Narendra Modi, the way it was adopted for me. The police should arrest him. They should also take him to the Delhi University and ask him to show the hall in which he appeared for exams. Everyone is equal before law,” he said.

In his letter to the DU vice-chancellor, Mr Kejriwal asserted that the primary question was whether the Prime Minister had pursued his B.A. from the university or not. He went on to claim that the university’s records did not have Mr Modi’s admission form, marksheet, or any other information about his degree.

“It is a matter of grave concern since the Gujarat University says that he (Mr Modi) has done his masters degree from there. If he has not pursued B.A. then how could he secure admission to M.A. This gives rise to suspicions that the M.A. degree is forged,” Mr Kejriwal wrote in the letter. Referring to reports that the documents are not in safe custody, the AAP chief urged the university’s vice-chancellor to take steps to secure them and upload them on website. “One English daily has reported that his degree is not secure and an accident may happen. This gives rise to another suspicion as to whether a ground for an accident is being prepared then I urge you to take steps for these documents to be secured,” Mr Kejriwal said.
