Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung to allow power distribution companies to operate as they like.

Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung to allow power distribution companies to operate as they like. His remarks came soon after Mr Jung’s refutation of the CM’s allegations that he had cancelled the Delhi government’s order to make discoms compensate consumers for unscheduled power cuts. Earlier in the day, a statement issued by the L-G’s office said Mr Jung didn’t ask for any specific file and that he has not issued any fresh order on this issue so far.

But launching a continued attack, Mr Kejriwal on Twitter said: “Power companies are hand-in-glove with Modi. Modiji asked L-G on phone to do what they (discoms) say.”

Addressing an event in Najafgarh on Sunday, Mr Kejriwal had said that the L-G has cancelled the AAP government’s order to make discoms pay compensation for outages.

Mr Jung’s office said it is unfortunate that factually “incorrect and misleading” statements are being put out in the public domain. “Files have been submitted to the office of the lieutenant governor by the GNCTD following the Hon’ble High Court’s order dated 4th August 2016,” it stated.

It further said that all such files, which have come to the L-G’s office, are likely to contain “constitutional infirmities”.

Mr Kejriwal during the Sunday event in Northwest Delhi had said: “Fifteen days ago, the L-G asked for the file pertaining to this matter and cancelled the order.”

In April this year, the DERC had passed an order, asking discoms to compensate consumers for outages extending up to two hours in the national capital.
