Welcoming the Delhi high court judgment, the Delhi BJP said that it has ended administrative anarchy prevailing for the last 18 months in the national capital.

Welcoming the Delhi high court judgment, the Delhi BJP said that it has ended administrative anarchy prevailing for the last 18 months in the national capital.

Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay said the BJP hopes the Kejriwal government will accept this judgment and concentrate on providing good administration. Or, Mr Kejriwal could resign from his post so that the people of Delhi get an opportunity to decide their future. “This judgment has made it clear that chief minister Kejriwal does not need vipassana, but a 10-day crash course in constitutional law,” added Mr Upadhyay.

Reacting to the Kejriwal government’s announcement that it will move the Supreme Court against the judgment, Mr Upadhyay said the very talk of appeal indicates Mr Kejriwal’s team has taken no lesson from the verdict. ”Today’s verdict of the high court clearly says that even for moving appeal on this constitutional issue, the Kejriwal government needs prior approval from the lieutenant-governor,” he added.

Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta said the verdict has put an end to the controversy raised by the AAP government on the federal structure of the country. “Mr Kejriwal should not make the judgment a prestige issue and should see it an opportunity to concentrate on the development of Delhi,” advised Mr Gupta.

The BJP’ Lok Sabha member from New Delhi, Meenakshi Lekhi, said it is very sad that after coming to power, Mr Kejriwal instead of using the platform of government to serve the people has made it a power playground, taking every issue of administration to the court of law.

“Today’s verdict of the Delhi high court has a special significance because it is a verdict on a constitutional matter. The high court has also ended any scope for debate in any form on the issue of the Article 239 of Constitution under which Delhi is a Union Territory. The Kejriwal government had challenged this article and after the judicial scrutiny it has been established that Delhi is a Union Territory and the Delhi government functions in the name of lieutenant-governor of Delhi,” added Ms Lekhi.

The BJP’s North East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari said undoubtedly Thursday is the day of victory of the Constitution. “Passing of the GST Bill in Parliament yesterday and today’s judgment are a message to the political parties that they should rise above the party politics and work for the development of the country and Delhi,” added Mr Tiwari.

Ms Lekhi advised the Delhi government to run the administration under the guidance and cooperation of the lieutenant-governor. “Now, we hope that the Kejriwal government in place of appealing to the Supreme Court will concentrate on serving the people of Delhi,” said Ms Lekhi.
