Delhiites finally got respite from sweltering heat and hot weather on Monday due to intermittent pre-monsoon showers and the weather is predicted to remain cool for the next two days at least, according to weather analysts.

This relief from hot weather is temporary as the analysts said temperature may rise up to 40-41 Celsius after Wednesday.

Bad weather on Monday delayed nearly 40 flights scheduled for arrival at the IGI Airport, which had to be diverted to other nearby airports.

An overnight thunderstorm in Delhi triggered a roof-collapse, killing a two-year-old girl, flooding the airport and affecting several flights, including that of PM Narendra Modi.

According to Delhi Fire Service, in North Delhi’s Matia Mahal area, a wall collapsed on the roof of an adjacent house during the dust storm around 10 pm on Sunday, in which the girl was buried to death and her sister and parents were injured.

Deputy chief fire officer Atul Garg said that the injured were rescued and admitted to a local hospital. All of the injured are out of danger.

In other such incidents between 10 pm and 10.30 pm, over 12 people were in-jured who have been admitted to various hospitals in the city. Two persons Amit and Man Singh were injured in a wall collapse near Naryana flyover. Ten people were injured in incidents of building collapse in Narela and Najafgarh.

People in the NCR woke up to a rainy morning as the city and its surroundings witnessed sporadic rainfall and strong winds throughout the night, leading to water-logging in several parts of the city.

Cyclonic circulation over Punjab, Haryana and Pa-kistan has had an effect ext-ending till eastern India.

“Light rain showers are expected till Tuesday. If the western winds continue bringing in moisture, then it may extend till Wedn-esday,” private weather forecaster Skymet director Mahesh Palawat said.
