Two bike-borne assaila-nts allegedly opened fire on an RTI activist in East Delhi’s Mayur Vihar area on Sunday night. The police said that the activist did not sustain any bullet injuries in the alleged attack.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the victim was standing outside his home from where he was abducted and taken to nearby area. But sensing something amiss, the victim started running and then they opened fire at him, a senior police official said.

A case of attempt to murder has been registered at the Mayur Vihar police station and the police has started their investigation.

The activist, identified as Surjit Singh, has cl-aimed that he was trying to unearth corrupt dealings of some builders in the Pandav Nagar area and recently he had filed an RTI plea against the illegal construction in the Chandra Vihar area.

“Mr Singh was standing outside his home when two people came in their bike and started threatening him. They later forcibly took him to a nearby isolated area,” the officer added.

The victim alleged that one of the builders of the Chandra Vihar area was constantly threatening him of dire consequences and the criminals were hired by him.
