NDMC organising school rallies to sensitise people, schoolchildren

With 57 new dengue cases last week, the total number of cases from the vector borne diseases has rise to 228. Out of the total cases, 122 have been reported from the national capital and the remaining from the neighbouring states. 109 of these cases have been recorded in the month of August. Six cases of dengue were reported in May and 15 cases in June. Ninety-one cases were reported in the month of July.

One case of dengue was reported from Civil Lines zone of North Delhi Municipal Corporation. Najafgarh zone of South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has recorded three cases. West, Central and South zones of SDMC recorded two and one cases each respectively. Five cases have been reported from two municipal zones of East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC).

Reportedly, two patients a girl from Jafrabad in northeast Delhi died due to dengue on July 21 at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital and Okhla MLA Amanatullah Khan’s sister-in-law succumbed to dengue on August 12 at Apollo Hospital. The report released by the municipal authorities have not officially acknowledged any dengue death this year.

Out of the 106 cases from outside the national capital, 31 were reported from Uttar Pradesh, 10 from Haryana and 65 from other states. Last year, in one of the worst outbreaks of the disease, the city reported 15,867 dengue cases with 60 deaths. Breeding of mosquitoes was found in 24,114 houses under NDMC, 43,514 houses in SDMC area and 8,662 in EDMC area. The number of prosecutions launched in these areas were 1,720, 2,820 and 316 respectively.

The New Delhi Municipal Council in association with a leading healthcare company is organising school rallies to sensitise people, particularly school-going children, on how to prevent themselves from the mosquito-borne disease. Delhi Cantt’s MLA, Surender Singh, flagged off a rally at the Council’s Navyug School to raise awareness.
