A 20-year-old girl was found dead under mysterious circumstances in a water park in Kalindi Kunj area of Southeast Delhi on Saturday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Savita. She had gone along with around 80 other students to the Delhi Rides amusement park in a tour organised by an NGO. They entered the pool at around 2.40 pm. Her body was found in the water pool of a ride at around 5.40 pm by her friends, said a senior officer.

The body of the deceased was preserved at AIIMS for post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death. No external marks were found on the body, he said.

The girl was found in the pool which was about 1.5 feet in depth and so drowning as the cause of death was not possible. A team has been formed to investigate the incident thoroughly.

“We have questioned several other persons, including her friends who were in the pool during the incident. She was spotted only after her body was found floating in the pool. We have also asked the members of NGO who were supervising the tour to provide other details needed for investigation,” said a senior police official.

However, it was learnt that the girl suffered from fits and could have become unconscious while rushing down from the ride and choked in the water, the police said.

The girl used to learn sewing, knitting and other cottage crafts at the NGO run centre. She lived with her family at Janta Colony in Uttam Nagar, the police added. The deceased’s mother works as a maid and her two younger brothers work at a factory.
