As the crucial working committee meeting of BCCI is scheduled to be held in Kolkata on Sunday, reports suggest that N. Srinivasan is keen to chair the proceedings. As the previous meeting in Delhi had to be adjourned as “emergent” was not mentioned in the circular and Kolkata meet, which is the last meeting of the committee before the AGM, holds a lot of significance. Sources told a television channel that Srinivasan is insistent on taking charge of the BCCI regardless of the verdict the Supreme Court is to deliver on the composition of the IPL-6 fixing and betting probe panel. The first hearing into the matter is on Thursday, reported CNN-IBN. The TV channel also reported, quoting sources, that most BCCI members are opposed to Srinivasan chairing the meeting and concerned about the impact of a negative court verdict. The case is in the supreme court after the Bombay High Court had called the BCCI-appointed probe panel “illegal and unconstitutional” in response to a PIL filed by the Cricket Association of Bihar. The IPL scandal broke out when India pacer S. Sreesanth, along with two other Rajasthan Royals players Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan and 11 bookies, was arrested for alleged spot-fixing. The meeting might also approve the BCCI-MRF Pace Foundation deal.
