With so much riding on the IPL-9 final between the RCB, who are gunning for their first title in three attempts and Sunrisers Hyderabad, in their maiden attempt, the threat of rain has come as a dampener to the players and fans alike. Up until Saturday afternoon the weather had stayed clear but a sudden thunderstorm in the evening whipped up fears of the match being affected.

The Met department has predicted showers over the weekend and Saturday evening’s rain cut short the Challengers’ practice.

The Sunrisers, having arrived in the city after Friday night’s victory over Gujarat Lions in the Qualifier 2, had chosen to skip practice, opting to get some needed rest ahead of the final. The good news for the fans is that the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is one of the best equipped in the country to get the turf in condition in the event of rain and a case in point is the league encounter against Kings XI which was hit by rains on May 18.

But quick and admirable work by the KSCA ground staff ensured a start before 10pm in a 15-over-a-side match and it proved unforgettable as a ton-up Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle smashed the Kings XI bowlers. Are we in for a repeat act Fingers crossed.
