England recorded the highest-ever team total in a one-day international when they made 444/3 against Pakistan at Trent Bridge on Tuesday. That surpassed the previous record of 443/9 by Sri Lanka against the Netherlands at Amstelveen in 2006.

It was also the highest ODI total in a match between two Test nations, topping South Africa’s 439/2 for two against the West Indies at Johannesburg last year.

Alex Hales, on his Nottinghamshire home ground, made an England ODI record 171 on Tuesday. Earlier, England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bat.

England were unchanged from the side that won the second ODI at Lord’s by four wickets as they sought a win in this day/night fixture that would put them an unbeatable 3-0 up in the five-match series.

Pakistan made one change, with Mohammad Nawaz replacing fellow left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder Imad Wasim, who suffered a knee injury while making an unbeaten 63 at Lord’s. Scoreboard England: J.
