The Chennai police is examining a high-profile Twitter handle from the city — which is followed by even Prime Minister Narendra Modi — in which Infosys techie Swathi’s murder has been described as an “ISIS-type beheading carried out by a Muslim”. Even after the arrest of the killer by the police, the post by Ramki @ramkiXLRI, who claims to be BJP activist, has not been removed.

Ramki describes himself as an alumnus of the XLRI business school, BJP worker, social entrepreneur and an RSS swayamsevak from Chennai.

Besides trumpeting the fact that Ramki is followed by even the Prime Minister, the user often flaunts photographs with Union Cabinet ministers such as V.K. Singh on his twitter account.

Other Twitter users have been trolling Ramki for his post, but he has also found some support for linking ISIS with Swathi’s killer. Ramki’s tweet had attracted criticism from political parties, including AAP and Congress, besides a good number of social media users.

Many accused the BJP of using their communal agenda to make inroads into Tamil Nadu, where the party could not get even one seat in recent Assembly elections.

However, Ramki’s supporters on social media are suggesting that he should sue an online magazine which highlighted the issue of his claim.

When the matter was pointed out to a senior police official in Chennai, he said he would certainly look into the matter.
