The Indian auto market has always been a bit different from others around the globe.

The Indian automotive market has turned out to be more challenging than others around the globe. This is primary because customers here want their car to excel in everything, rather than having a few priorities. However, Maruti Suzuki has been able to retain the title of the largest car manufacturer in India. It's no longer a surprise that the top four highest-selling cars in August 2016 come from Maruti's stable. The Alto 800 maintained its top position as the highest-selling car, followed by the Swift DZire, the WagonR and the Swift on second, third and fourth positions, respectively. Let's have a look at the top 10 selling cars in the month of August.

Moving to the carmakers, Maruti's dominance in the market can be easily observed. With six of the top 10 models emerging from Maruti's stable, it retains the top spot in manufacturers’ standings. Despite less than 50 per cent of Maruti's sales, Hyundai is in the second spot, thanks to the Grand i10 and the Elite i20. Also, with less than 50 per cent of Hyundai's sales, Mahindra is at the third spot. Have a look at the top 10 car manufacturers of August 2016.

Renault has witnessed a growth of 749 per cent from August 2015, thanks to the ever-growing popularity of the Kwid hatchback. To further help its cause, the Kwid has been launched in a 1.0-litre variant too. This car has a 999cc petrol engine which produces 68PS of power and 91Nm of torque. Honda, on the other hand, has witnessed a decline of 10.9 per cent in sales, as compared to August 2015.

With the Kwid 1.0-litre in the market, it's possible that next month Renault might overtake Tata in the standings as the difference between them this month is of just 30 units.
