Mahindra & Mahindra recently launched two new vehicles in the sub four meter SUV segment, the TUV300 and the facelifted version of the Quanto, named as NuvoSport. Now, the homegrown automaker is bringing a new contender in this segment, a smaller version of the Bolero. Since the sales of the Mahindra’s number churner the Bolero has been declining off lately, the sub four-meter variant of the Bolero could be targeted to boost its sales back. aa The wheelbase of the smaller Bolero is expected to remain the same and the reduced 170mm length will be because of reduced overhangs and redesigned bumpers. And much like the TUV and the NuvoSport, the smaller Bolero will also be a seven-seater with the last two being folding jump seats. Apart from the reduced length, there will not be any significant change to the body and design; the SUV will remain a doppelganger to the current Bolero. aa Also, as the current Bolero is powered by a 63PS 2.5-litre diesel engine which won't qualify it in the Government’s ‘small car’ regime. So, Mahindra will most likely equip this SUV with a 1.5-litre mHawk diesel which is currently employed in the TUV300 and the NuvoSport, but will produce around 70PS power. This will be a welcome change as this engine will have better performance and fuel efficiency, especially considering the reduced kerb weight. As this car will not be aimed towards the luxury-oriented customers, the standard basic equipment from the Bolero, along with the functional dashboard will be used in the smaller Bolero as well. Seats would be redesigned for space efficiency, but the comfort level is expected to remain same.

aa This SUV will be priced aggressively and will sit below the TUV300 in Mahindra's portfolio. Expected to launch next month, this mini Bolero could very well revive the 'Bolero' name with the same level of sturdiness and toughness which the elder sibling offered. We will soon get one and put it to test to see whether it will really live up to its name or not.
