Nifty ends flat, holds above 10,450-mark

The market capitalisation of listed firms on NSE stood at Rs 1,44,30,131.64 crore.

Mumbai: NSE benchmark Nifty closed flat at10, 451.80 points today following selling in energy, infra and private bank sectors amid tepid global cues.

 European shares were trading lower as investors focus on earnings and monitor President Donald Trump's comments in Asia. Asian stocks were mixed following a surprise shakeup over the weekend in Saudi Arabia.

The NSE Nifty opened lower at 10,431.75 and hit an intra-day record of 10,490,45 before finishing at 10,451.80, down just 0.70 points, or 0.01 per cent, from its last close. It saw an intra-day movement of about 76.70 points.

Broader markets remained bullish as Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices rose 0.15 per cent and 0.14 per cent, respectively.

Sector-wise, Energy fell 0.70 per cent, Infra 0.59 per cent, Private Bank 0.56 per cent, Bank 0.31 per cent and Pharma 0.03 per cent. Auto rose 1.32 per cent, PSU Bank 0.92 per cent, IT 0.84 per cent, Realty 0.44 per cent, Metal 0.34 per cent, FMCG 0.12 per cent and Media 0.11 per cent.

 Major index gainers were ONGC, M&M, Bharti Infratel, Tata Motors, Cipla, TCS, Wipro, Hindalco and Maruti. Losers included HPCL, Zee, Yes Bank, Sun Pharma, UPL, BPCL, IndusInd Bank and Bharti Airtel.

The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, was in favour of losers. On the NSE, 854 stocks advanced, 886 declined and 75 remained unchanged. Total securities that hit their price bands were 186. Turnover in the cash segment rose to Rs 35,436.46 crore from Rs 34,160.95 crore as on last Friday.

A total of 17,380.21 lakh shares changed hands in 12,446,757 trades. The market capitalisation of listed firms on NSE stood at Rs 1,44,30,131.64 crore.
