Hyundai confirms launch of third-gen Tucson in October

The third-generation Tucson was showcased at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo and the SUV is expected to hit the Indian roads this October.

On the sidelines of the launch of the sixth-generation Hyundai Elantra, we got some information about Hyundai's next launch in the country -- the Tucson. The premium SUV from Hyundai, which is in its third generation, the Tucson, was showcased at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. The company has now confirmed that it will be launching the Tucson in October this year.

The Tucson will essentially function as an SUV counterpart to the Elantra and will bridge the gap between the rapidly selling Creta and slow-moving Santa Fe. In an interview with us during the Auto Expo, a Hyundai official said that the company will bring the Tucson through the CKD (completely knocked down unit) route, with close to 50 per cent localization. Hyundai will most likely price it in the vicinity of Rs 16-18 lakh.

The SUV has been spotted testing on a few occasions and while its design is nothing like the 1st generation Tucson that was sold in India, the Fluidic 2.0 design architecture ensures that it looks familiarly-Hyundai. The model’s feature list is expected to include projector headlamps, LED DRLs and tail lights, a panoramic sunroof, power-adjustable seats and an electric tailgate. Must-haves like steering-mounted controls, a touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and automatic climate control will be offered, while cruise control and ventilated seats may be included in the kitty as well.

Engine options could include 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre petrol and diesel mills (respectively), paired with manual and automatic transmissions. The SUV is available with four-wheel drive and we hope the option isn’t skipped in India. The Tucson will take on the likes of the Honda CR-V and Skoda Yeti.
