Hyundai Commences Tucson Bookings

Hyundai announced at the beginning of the current financial year that it will launch at least couple of new products every year. Standing by its commitment, the Korean automaker launched the next-gen Elantra in August. Now, the company is poised to roll out its next offering in the Indian market, the Tucson, on October 24.

And sources now inform us that bookings for the new big car from Hyundai have unofficially commenced at select dealerships for a refundable token amount of Rs 25,000. They added that customers, who are keen on purchasing the Tucson, can also experience the car in flesh; though test drives have not been facilitated yet. Some units of the car were imported in India for homologation and are available with certain dealerships in cities like Mumbai.

Showcased at the Delhi Auto Expo earlier this year, the Hyundai Tucson has been a much-awaited product, especially after the success of the company’s smaller SUV – the Creta – in the country. And in its second coming, it will be nothing like its previous avatar that was discontinued around five years ago.

For instance, the new Tucson will come with a petrol variant, unlike the erstwhile version that only featured a diesel mill. The petrol pot will be same as the one that debuted on the latest Elantra; where in its 2.0-litre capacity, it churns out 152PS of power and 192Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted by either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

As for the diesel powerplant, expect it to be a bit more powerful than the one available in the Creta currently; something like the 2.0-litre mill that is offered on the Tucson in global markets. In its international iteration, the engine is capable of churning out 185PS of power and an impressive 400Nm of torque.

Talking money, our sources have confirmed to us that the Hyundai Tuscon will be priced starting from around the Rs 17 lakh mark for the base E variant, going up to Rs 25 lakh for the top-spec SX plus trim. To be positioned between the Creta and the Santa Fe by Hyundai, the car will be pitted against the likes of the Honda CR-V and the Skoda Yeti in the segment.
