General Motors has decided to revamp its product line-up in India in order to make its operations much more profitable and eliminate its loss making operations. The key focus would be to enter new segments and exports from India.

There will also be a phase out of existing, loss-making and troubled models, as new products will come in. The first one to go will be the Chevrolet Enjoy MPV, which will go out in the next few months, along with the premium sedan Chevrolet Cruzes. General Motors has also stopped production of the Spark mini-car as well.

Although the Chevrolet Tavera did well, Enjoy MPV came in as a replacement, as the former had been in the market for a very long time. Still Tavera is the preferred model for most buyers, as it continued to sell up to five times higher than the Enjoy.

Even a couple of months ago, it was reported that GM was revising its India plans. So, scheduled launches of the Spin MPV, and the Adra all seem to have been aborted. While the domestic market has slumped for the General Motors, export market has been doing well for the American manufacturer in India.

It had a whopping 1,602 percent growth in exports to sell 24,004 vehicles in the April to August period of the current fiscal, against a mere 1,410 vehicles in the same period last year. SIAM reports that General Motors sold nearly twice in exports than its domestic sales, which was just around the 10,000 mark.

General Motors also reiterates that it is committed to bringing new products that are safe as well as high quality to the Indian customers. The Essentia sedan and the Beat Activ crossover are next in line for an India launch but GM refuses to comment on the launch of these models.
