Honda has unveiled the fifth generation 2017 CR-V in Detroit, North America. The Japanese carmaker will sell the model in the US before 2016 draws to an end. The model, in its two decade long history in the US, sold well over a 4 million units, since the year 1997.

The new generation model gets plenty of upgrades, in both the exteriors and the interiors, while borrowing traits from the new generation Honda Civic. The front-grille gets chromed with horizontal wing slats, which also gets an active shutter system that lowers the aerodynamic drag, while cruising.

It also gets LED DRLs with the headlamps, while LED headlamps are made available in the higher Touring trim. The front bumper also gets more muscular housing fog lamp provisions. Based on the trim level, it will also get 17 or 18-inch alloys. The 2017 Honda CR-V also brings Hands-Free Access Power Tailgate for the first time in a Honda, while LED tail lights are also seen in the rear.

The interior gets a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, in a digital instrument cluster. The dashboard has also been reworked, while it also gets multi-functional steering wheel.

As with the hands-free tailgate access, the 2017 fifth generation Honda CR-V also gets remote engine start system as well. Heated ORVMs, dual-zone climate control, rear USB charging ports, etc. with heated front seats, 4-way power adjustable front passenger seat and 8-way power adjustable driver seat are equipment available on the higher-end trims.

And for the first time, the Honda CR-V gets a turbocharged motor, which is quite anticipated as well. The 1.5-litre, DOHC, turbocharged petrol engine, shared by the new generation Civic, delivers a 187 bhp of power and 243 Nm of torque.

The 2.4-litre, naturally-aspirated, i-VTEC, direct-injected engine making 181 bhp and 244 Nm of torque will be powering the base models. The transmission duties are performed by a CVT as standard for both the engines.
