2017 Chevrolet Cruze Will Be Offered With 1.6-Litre Diesel Engine

The second-gen Chevrolet Cruze was revealed in June 2015 in North America, although the diesel variants of the sedan were not announced then. Chevrolet has now confirmed the long-awaited diesel version of the sedan along with a hatchback version. The second-generation diesel variants will be powered by 1.6-litre diesel engines, unlike the previous version’s 2.0-litre diesel, which is currently on sale in India. They will be offered with a new nine-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission.

While the petrol-powered Cruze is already on sale in the USA, the diesel avatar will go sale in the first half of 2017. Speaking of its Indian launch, the present Cruze is in dire need of replacement, and its poor sales figures are indicative of the same. We expect the American automaker to launch the second-generation Cruze next year in the country. The info about this new diesel is scarce, but rumours suggest it will be Opel-Vauxhall’s 1.6-litre ‘Whisper Diesel’.

India is likely to get the same diesel engine, along with the new 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol that made its debut with the Cruze in 2015 and is already on sale in the USA. If the petrol option is offered, it will be the first time for the Cruze nameplate in India.
