At an event, actor Sonakshi Sinha said that sports in India deserve more attention than they get.

Mumbai: Speaking at the launch of #LikeAGirl campaign, brainchild of a widely popular sanitary pad brand, Sonakshi Sinha vocalises her thoughts on the changing sport scenario in India and measures that need to be taken to promote sports other than Cricket.

Last seen in ‘Ákira’ as a headstrong girl who fears nobody, Sonakshi feels that although Indian sporting culture is predominantly Cricket, slowly but surely other sports are raising to prominence. She said, “Up until today, Cricket was given so much importance but in the recent past, few other sports have come forward like Kabaddi, Badminton, Wrestling Because of the awareness after the Olympics but I still feel all sports should be given equal platform just like Cricket in that way we have a long way to go”

When asked about the kind of homework she had to do for the challenging character she plays in ‘Akira’, Sonakshi breaks into a giggle and says that it was her director, AR Murugadoss’s confidence in her that convinced the star to say yes for the film. Sonakshi added, “She dresses like a girl, behaves like a girl but she can fight too.”

Sonakshi, who has played powerful characters in the past, was all praise for Sakshi Malik, the Olympic winner, saying that she has managed to throw some light on other sports like wrestling with her achievement.

Sinha, who has made a name for herself with films like ‘Dabangg’ and ‘Lootera’, will soon be seen in ‘Force 2’ and ‘Noor’.
