Sugandha Garg was never one to conform to stereotypes. Be it her stints on the television or the big screen, the TV host has always chosen an off beat track. Days before the release of her celluloid comeback, she talks about the film, the changing face of Bollywood for women and confirms the buzz about her separation with husband and Roadies baddie, Raghu Ram.

Did you always want to act in Bollywood films No. I started with BBC as a host and later I continued hosting for several travel channels. I also did theatre and sang for Coke Studio. I am passionate about playing the guitar and signing. I signed Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa because music was an important part of it. In fact, I took my guitar for my audition of Jugni. I feel Jugni marks my return on screen.

Is ‘Jugni’ a musical drama or a love triangle It is a relationship drama on the bed of music. All the songs in the film take the story ahead. There is a spiritual connect in the characters weaved by music.

You got to travel a lot in this film. Is that one of the things that attracted you towards the film Totally. I would love to pack my bags and leave like I did in Jugni. Mustard farms are so iconic in our Bollywood films and I was so surprised to shoot in one of them for Jugni. The God men and the auto rides in Punjab are so cool.

Was it challenging for you to play Jugni Not specifically — except the time crunch. We were on our toes all the time because we had to finish the entire schedule in the given time.

Airlift and Kyaa Kool Hai Hum 3 release on the same day as Jugni— does that bother you I think there is a market for every film. We definitely have an audience and I guarantee that people will leave the theatres with a smile.

Is it a constant effort to do women centric films of late I feel I don’t want to be an actor who sits in vanity vans and click Selfies every minute. I want to do films which can bring life on screen, no matter how big or small they are. Jugni has a lot for me as a woman and a human.

Do you like the fact that Bollywood has turned its attention to women-centric films I surely believe that Vidya Balan and Kangna Ranaut have changed the current face of Indian cinema for us. Vidya Balan’s act in The Dirty Picture is phenomenal and Kangana was flawless in Queen and Tanu Weds Manu franchise. These women are so independent and fiercely modern.

Is it true that you are parting ways with your husband Rahgu Ram Yes, we are separating with dignity.
