Kartik turns down Rs 25 lakh offer to recite monologue

Kartik, who rose to fame with his impeccable rant in Pyaar Ka Punchnama, followed by an equally fierce monologue in the film’s sequel Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 is probably the first actor to be offered a stage appearance for his lines. The actor was offered Rs 25 lakhs to perform the monologue in front of a live audience at a private, international event, but he turned it down.

Until now, actors have been invited to private events for dance performances and even villains have been offered huge sums to mouth their famous dialogues, but this is the first time that an actor has been approached for an act of this sort.

Says a source, “It’s not easy to memorise a monologue and deliver it right. One little slip and the entire thing can go for a toss. In Kartik’s case, it was a seven-page long rant.” When contacted, Kartik said, “I would have loved to do it, but unfortunately I had some prior commitments to attend to and couldn’t take it up.”
