After doing a slew of candy-floss rom-com movies early in her career, the very likeable Alia Bhatt has tasted blood. In a clear change of direction, she did Highway, Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab and is now working on Gauri Shinde’s Dear Zindagi.

Does this mean Alia is shifting gears “Not at all,” protests the young star. “I want to make this very clear. I don’t want to be one of those actors who is identified with one genre of cinema. Of course, I want to do realistic films, but I also want to do films that are completely the opposite. I want to do massive masala movies.”

On Alia’s wish list is doing a full-fledged comedy movie. I want to do an out-and-out comedy where I get to try out my comic timing. People feel that Shaandaar was a comedy movie of mine, but I never saw the film as comedy.”

Alia, however, is clearly in the driver’s seat, with her career racing ahead at breakneck speed. “I’m in no hurry,” Alia giggles nervously. “I just hope it lasts. Fingers crossed!”

The actress is currently shooting for Abhishek Burman’s comedy, Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya. It’s her second movie with Abhishek, and third paired alongside Varun Dhawan. It also happens to be the second movie for Alia in Karan Johar’s ‘Dulhaniya’ franchise. She can’t stop gushing about the fun she’s having.

“It’s like a family reunion. Trust me, apart from the same faces, there’s no similarity between Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Badrinath It’s interesting to be a part of a love franchise; we’ve never had that before.” Being inundated with work, Alia says that she does feel the need to be with herself. “Yes, I need alone time, away from everyone. When I return from that small period of solitude, I feel rejuvenated. I don’t know about others, but I seriously need breaks from work!”
