Family comes first for Kat

Katrina Kaif is firm about her priorities. The actress puts her family before all else — even a staggering sum of Rs 5 crores if need be. Buzz is that Kat was offered the whopping amount for a New Year’s Eve performance at one of Mumbai’s five star hotels.

But the actress turned it down to be with her family for the holiday season — a tradition she has maintained for years.
If the news of her being offered the sum is indeed true, then it would be a first in Bollywood. King Khan himself was offered `4 crores last year.
“Katrina never takes up work during the last few days of December. She makes it a point to spend time with her family in London and plans to do the same this year, unless she’s caught up with a shoot schedule for Dhoom 3. In that case, she’ll make an exception since it’s a prior commitment,” says a source close to the actress.
From what we hear, this is not the first time that Kat has turned down the big bucks. She has in the past, ditched a 10-minutes performance for which she was offered `3 crores.
As much moolah as the male actors may rake in through the year, the year-end is all about the ladies nights. Besides, like they say, there are some things money can’t buy. In Katrina’s case, it is family fun time!

The headlines said it all. The Man Booker International Prize had been awarded to Lydia Davis, the American author. But most Indian newspapers in English announced it as “U.R. Ananthamurthy loses out on Man Booker”. You could almost hear the collective sigh of millions of disappointed Indians.

Today, India’s prime actors who are making a bid for international visibility — in roles, major or minor — are amassing reams of publicity and flashbulb attention from the paparazzi. Amitabh Bachchan, despite a brief part in The Great Gatsby, stirred up news headlines and tumult at the extravaganza’s premiere in New York, and then on the Cannes Film Festival’s red carpet. Irrfan Khan and Tabu have received an unconditional thumbs-up from the Oscar-celebrated Ang Lee after Life of Pi, Anil Kapoor is a known factor in international enclaves after Slumdog Millionaire, a cameo in Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, as well as the TV series 24.
