Omkar Kapoor aka Thakur from Pyaar Ka Punchnama seems to be a favourite with the ladies after the movie’s success. The actor, who admits that he couldn’t have gotten a better start, says “The film is a phenomenal success and is still running in theatres. The female interest my character is getting has gone through the roof. It’s a great feeling for someone who is just one film old. Just yesterday I attend an event at a school and the girls went crazy shouting out my character’s name. When I signed the film I was a bit scared, as we had to match up to the expectations that the first film had raised. Luckily, I didn’t have to step into to anyone else’ shoes as we had fresh new characters.”

Omkar started out as a child artiste and has worked with superstars like Sridevi, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and many more as a kid.

“I have always believed that a film set is the best filmmaking school. I didn’t go to any formal acting school to learn the art. I have also assisted Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Farah Khan. Having worked with Shah Rukh Khan, Salman, Amitabh Bachchan I would keep think how they would have approached a scene. So yes, I feel that I did have an edge over other debutants. I was well groomed, knew the nuances and expressions and it was a huge compliment when people said that I looked like a seasoned actor in my very first film.”

When quizzed about what’s next, Omkar says, “I’m open to all kind of films. I want to work with all directors, especially the younger ones. Yashraj films, Dharma, R Balki, Anurag Basu are all on my wish list. I want to have at least one Barfi, one Rockstar, another commercial mad success like Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2. I’m a greedy actor and believe PKP 2 only showed 30 percent of my potential, there’s a lot more to me. I have also been called the young Saif Ali Khan, because my character Thakur was very suave and had a lot from my own personality.” Speaking about contemporaries he admires, Omkar says, “Ranbir Kapoor and Ranveer Singh are doing fantastic work. They are the ones who have broken the norm of choosing safe films. Of course, I admire and learn from the Khans too.” Another big high for the actor was when Salman Khan tweeted about him. “Salman bhai has always been very generous. He told me that I have potential, and that I will get there. For a young guy like me, being complimented by a superstar is a big thing. He also has an eye for talent and be it new musicians or actors he gives them a platform. How many people in today’s times do that ” he adds.
