The iPhone XR offers the XS internals with all the fan-favourite features from the original iPhone X.

The biggest difference between the XR and the XS is the display — instead of an OLED panel, the XR is relying on an LCD panel.

A few hours ago, Apple unveiled its updated range f iPhones for 2018. The iPhone XS and XS Plus are proper ultra-premium flagship Apple smartphones with the best technologies that the Cupertino behemoth can cram into a phone right now. However, in order to keep a strong foothold in the premium segment and increase the accessibility, they have toned down the XS to shape it in the form of iPhone XR.

The iPhone XR is the successor to the iPhone 8, with prices starting at $749 in the US. The iPhone XR will be coming to India in October, with sales starting from 26th October. The XR will be available in three storage variants — 64GB, 128GB and 256GB, and in five colour variant — white, black, blue, yellow, coral and a (PRODUCT)RED edition as well.

The biggest difference between the XR and the XS is the display — instead of an OLED panel, the XR is relying on an LCD panel. Apple calls it the Liquid Retina display that measures 6.1-inches and renders at 1792 x 828-pixel resolution with 326ppi. The display gets native support for True Tone and wide colour support, which Apple claims can deliver a better viewing experience. However, the XR loses out on 3D Touch and relies on Taptic Feedback for launching the camera or the flashlight. With no Home Button, the XR supports tap to wake, swipe up to the home screen, swipe down to access notifications and the Control Centre.

Underneath, the XR is powered by the same A12 Bionic chipset that’s used on XS and XS Plus. The A12 features a custom hexa-core CPU, a quad-core GPU and an octa-core Neural Engine. With iOS 12, Apple promises benchmarking performance. FaceID also makes a return with faster algorithms for detection and verification than before.

When it comes to the optics, the XR has to make do with a single 12MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture, supported by OIS. Apple says the camera along with smarter AI-based algorithms can deliver better imaging capabilities than the iPhone 8. The Smart HDR is the most hyped feature that takes multiple shots in different exposures and combines them to get the bets shot. The camera also relies on software for bokeh photos as well. It can also record 4K videos up to 60fps. The 7MP TrueDepth front camera can do portrait lighting along with as Animojis and Memojis.

As for the battery, Apple claims a stamina of 1.5 hours more than that of the iPhone 8 Plus. Users should be able to get a talk time of up to 25 hours, Internet use of up to 15 hours, video playback of up to 16 hours and audio playback of up to 65 hours. It supports Qi-standard wireless charging and fast charging as well — up to 50 per cent charge 30 minutes.

The iPhone XR will be shipped with a standard charging adapter, a USB-to-Lightning cable and a pair of Earpods.
