Players of the victorious Western Railway team are seen in a jubilant mood after defeating Freunds SC in the women’s final of the Mount Carmel Invitation Floodlit Rink Hockey Tournament – 2018, organised by the Carmel Sports Committee and played under floodlights at the Mount Carmel Church compound.

Riding on the combined efforts of Jaswinder Kaur and Rajuta Malik, a formidable Western Railway smoothly sailed to a fluent 6-1 win against a youthful Freunds Sports Club in the Women’s final of the Mount Carmel Invitation Floodlit Rink Hockey Tournament.

Centre forward Jaswinder led from the front and struck three goals, while Rajuta played the perfect supporting role by scoring a brace of goals to give the Railway outfit the upper hand through the final.

The younger and less experienced Freunds players fought on gamely and managed to create a couple of goal scoring chances, but poor finishing let them down. They managed to pull one back through the consistent score Ruqqaiya Shaikh to reduce the margin of defeat.

Madhavi Patil of Freunds was later declared as the ‘Player of the Final’, while Western Railway’s Songgai Chanu was adjudged as ‘Player of the tournament’. Young Althea Almeida of Hockey Lovers was presented with the ‘Most Promising Player’  award.
