ISL 2017-18: ATK post first win of season, hand Mumbai City FC’s first loss at home

Mumbai: ATK completed a much-needed victory over hosts Mumbai City’s FC with the final scoreline reading 1-0 in a league encounter of the Indian Super League here on Sunday.

Coming to the match with just two draws and two losses, Teddy Sheringham’s side created chances in the first half but were unable to convert it. Mumbai goalkeeper Amrinder Singh, too made some spectacular saves, but went in vain as he conceded a goal in the second half. It was a goal by Portugese Zequinha which eventually won the match for the Kolkata team, lifting them off the bottom spot.

In the dying minutes of the match, Mumbai missed out on equalising the match as ATK goalkeeper Debjit Majumder made a brilliant save, proving costly for the hosts. As a result, the Maharashtra club suffered to their first loss at home turf this season.

In the second half, Mumbai City’s Emana Edzimbi was given a yellow card for fouling on ATK’s Egas Dos Santos Branco. However, Dos Santos was back on his feet and resuming the game.

ATK will hope to carry this momentum when they host Delhi Dynamos on Saturday, whereas Mumbai will play their next game away against Northeast United on Wednesday.
