Thailand are the defending champions and India’s amateur enthusiasts will aim at nothing less than toppling them in July.

India’s amateur corporate golf circuit rolls on with the Delhi qualifiers of the World Corporate Golf Challenge India, set to tee-off at the ITC Classic Golf Resort in Gurugram on Saturday. Former cricketer Murali Karthik would be seen in action vying for the top honours in the Delhi leg that would see participation from over 100 golfers.

The four-city tournament that teed-off from Mumbai earlier this month has a new destination in Hyderabad apart from Delhi and Bengaluru for this year’s edition. The Mumbai leg saw participation from 116 golfers, which included corporate stalwarts competing for a spot in the National Finals, scheduled on March 3 at the Prestige Golfshire in Bengaluru.

Two winning teams from each city progress to the National Finals where the winning team goes on to represent Corporate India and compete against winning teams from 30 nations in the World Finals which would be held at Cascais, Portugal.

The WCGC is in its 25th year since inception and India has had quite a good record in the tournament, having won the world finals twice and finishing runner-up thrice in 19 years, since when they have started competing in the tournament.  The tournament is unique in its nature as it helps amateur golfers compete in pro-like competitive conditions and course setup. This year close to 500 golfers from corporate India are expected to participate to finally find a spot to represent their nation in World Finals later in 2019.
