Pdt Tarun Bhattacharya receives Sangeet Maha Samman award

Santoor maestro’s felicitation program was part of the Bangla Sangeet Mela 2017.

Bhattacharya said that with the award his responsibility towards furthering the cause of Indian Classical music increases.

Legendary Santoor Maestro Pdt Tarun Bhattacharya received the Sangeet Maha Samman award from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, at a recent program held at Uttirna, Kolkata.

On receiving the award he said, “I am deeply honoured by the magnanimous gesture of the Hon'ble Chief Minister, while awards and recognition play a vital role in encouraging artistes it is the love and affection of the masses that keep us musicians striving to better ourselves. With this award my responsibility towards furthering the cause of Indian Classical music increases and I hope to live up to the same."

Eminent musicians, apart from Pdt Tarun Bhattacharya who received recognition were Rezwana Chowdhury from Bangladesh and folk singer Swapan Basu, Shubhankar Banerjee who were awarded with Sangeet Maha Samman while Imon Chakraborty. Swapan Sen, Nemai Soren among others were presented with Sangeet Samman.

The program saw Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bollywood singer Abhijeet and Music Composer Jeet Ganguly along with legendary Sandhya Mukherjee and Dwijen Mukherjee on stage presenting the awards.

The felicitation program was part of the Bangla Sangeet Mela 2017.
