Mumbai: The Bombay high court on Wednesday awarded death sentence to a man while sentencing a co-accused to life imprisonment in a 2012 kidnapping cum murder case. The accused had abducted a 12-year-old boy then killed him before asking for a ransom of Rs 25 lakh. The convict committed the crime to settle a score with his former employer, whose son he abducted and killed.  

The Sessions judge Dattatray Satawalekar partially accepted the request made by public prosecutor Mohan Sawant and awarded capital punishment to Imtiyaz Shaikh. The judge held that the role played by Shaikh fell under the rarest of rare case and showing leniency to him would give wrong message to society. The judge however, sentenced another accused Azad Ansari to life imprisonment.

The prosecution case is that the accused had abducted their employer Rajesh Bhandge's son Shree and killed him and sought Rs 25 lakh from him. The reason for this was that Bhandge, owner of embroidery workshop, had noticed some irregularity and had sacked Shaikh from the job few months before the indident. Shaikh wanted to take revenge and hence conspired to kidnap his son.
