Mumbai: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Mumbai seized 1.3kgof heroin worth around Rs 1.33 crore on Tuesday and arrested a 26-year-old Ugandan woman who was in its possession. 

The seizure was done from Borivali station and the contraband was brought via train from Delhi. 

The woman was identified as Grace Nakitende, arrived by August Kranti Express from Delhi with the drugs. She alighted at Borivali, officials said, soon after which she was intercepted based on a tip off that she was carrying heroin. The accused belongs to Mbarara city in Uganda, officials said. 

“There is strong possibility that she was not operating alone. We are trying to track down her accomplices who were assisting her.

The handlers would sell the heroin in smaller quantities to the consumers is what we know. The NCB is also ascertaining her past record and if she was apprehended in the past. Forensic tests of the seized substance confirmed it to be heroin. 

A case has been registered against Nakitende as per the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, which attracts stringent prison term upto 20 years.
